How to Do Your Own Amazing Lymphatic Drainage Massage
In this video, I will teach you how to do your own lymphatic drainage massage. If you have been through breast cancer and lost some lymph nodes during the surgery, you can often be left with swelling, lack of range of movement, and something known as lymphedema.
If you have lymphedema, the first thing I’d recommend you do is to see a certified lymphatic drainage therapist — it’s called Manual Lymphatic Drainage, or MLD. Lymphatic drainage massage gently stretches the skin and helps move fluid away from an area that is swollen to areas of the body where the lymphatic system is working better – areas not affected by the surgery.
However, often women live in small towns or rural areas and simply have no access to this type of therapy. So mainly this video is for them. But you may find it of benefit even if you do have access to these therapists – something you can do for yourself in between sessions.

Thank You for the informative video. I am 11 years post breast cancer, three years with lymphedema (left arm). At times I find it difficult to manage. It was reassuring to know that my current self massage is in line with your approach. I will however include breathing at the beginning. I practise yoga twice a week and believe this helps, although I have to be careful not to do too much.

You might also find rebounding (like with a small trampoline) to be extremely beneficial for your lymphedema. Gentle bouncing on a rebounder for 10 to 15 minutes will stimulate your lymphatic system. The changes in gravity cause your lymphatic channels to expand, and this really helps lymphatic circulation.
