How to Do Dry Skin Brushing

One of the natural therapies I highly recommend for improving lymphatic health and the immune system is dry skin brushing. This is a quick “how to” video that I stole from a Facebook Live event (so it’s not the best quality) but it effectively shows you how to do dry skin brushing.

Dry skin brushing is awesome for helping the lymphatic system move toxins out of the body – even if you have lost lymph nodes due to breast cancer surgery, this procedure will help you as well. It increases circulation in the skin, promotes the flow of lymphatic fluid and that helps in several ways.

Dry skin brushing is really beneficial for the immune system, and although that might seem strange, here’s how it works.

The coarse bristles of the brush (which should be a natural boar bristle brush for best results) removes old dead skin cells, unclogs and stimulates the pores in your skin, and opens them up. This allows sweat to leave the body easier, carrying with it any toxins that need to be released. Reducing the amount of toxins in the body has a very beneficial effect on the immune system.

Another side benefit is that dry skin brushing makes your skin much more silky!

For best results, do this daily – before your shower (definitely not during) and go very lightly on any areas that are tender or sensitive. Avoid doing this on the breasts while undergoing radiation – the skin will be too fragile then.

Thank you Marnie for breaking this down so thoroughly! I have done dry brushing in the past but I never had very specific instructions so I always wondered if I was doing it right or even causing more harm than good. I feel set now to reintegrate this practice into my routine😊
